Zahra Rahnavard's Message on the Eve of the Two Thousandth Day of House Arrest

The website Kaleme reported that Zahra Rahnavard, the wife of Mir Hossein Mousavi, one of the leaders of the Green Movement, has conveyed a message during a meeting with her children on the eve of their two thousandth day of house arrest, stating, "Even if two thousand years pass, we have no wish other than the dignity of the country and freedom and justice for the people." According to this website's report on Thursday, August 14, the weekly meeting of Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard's children with them took place this week near the 'Akhtar' building, where they are under house arrest. The visitors described the condition of Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard during this two-hour meeting as "patient, calm, and in very good physical health and spirits." Based on this report, after learning about the actions of some youth on social media regarding their two thousandth day of house arrest, Mrs. Rahnavard stated, "Two thousand days have passed, but even if two thousand years pass, we have no wish other than the dignity of the country and freedom and justice for the people." Mir Hossein Mousavi, Zahra Rahnavard, and Mehdi Karroubi have been under house arrest without trial since the end of Bahman 1389 (February 2011), for nearly two thousand days. The only change in their situation was the transfer of Mehdi Karroubi's house arrest from the 'safe house' of the Ministry of Intelligence to his home in Jamaran in Bahman 1392 (February 2014). Previously, some political parties and figures in Iran, including the Society of Teachers and Researchers of Qom Seminary, former President Mohammad Khatami, and Tehran representative Ali Motahari, have called for the lifting of the house arrest of these three individuals. Mehdi Karroubi also emphasized in a letter to Hassan Rouhani that he does not consider the lifting of the house arrest to be "in his hands," and requested that Mr. Rouhani ask the "oppressive regime" to put him on "public trial." In response, Sadegh Larijani, the head of Iran's judiciary, stated that whenever the Supreme National Security Council's resolution regarding the house arrest of these two individuals changes, the judiciary is ready to hold their trial. However, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council has stated that this body cannot report on the house arrest under current conditions. Sadegh Larijani, the Secretary of the Human Rights Headquarters of the Judiciary, said on Sunday, August 10, that they have been "punished by the deprivation of social rights according to the law." Previously, several officials of the Islamic Republic, including Ali Akbar Nategh Nouri and Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, have announced that the decision to lift the house arrest of these three individuals is solely in the hands of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. Meanwhile, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei emphasized on Sunday, July 12, in response to a student's question about the house arrest that he remains "sensitive" to the protests following the 2009 presidential election.
