Zarif's Reaction to Assassination Attempt in Denmark; "Mossad's Conspiracy" Strengthens Our Resolve

Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran's Foreign Minister, responded on Wednesday, November 9, to allegations made by Denmark regarding the involvement of Iran's Ministry of Intelligence in a plot to assassinate an opponent of the Islamic Republic, stating that the issue is a conspiracy by Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad. Zarif wrote on his Twitter: "The reckless and stubborn actions of Mossad to mislead public opinion only strengthens our resolve to engage constructively with the world." Denmark accused Iran's Ministry of Intelligence of attempting to assassinate an activist opposing the Islamic Republic. In this context, it has been reported that a Norwegian citizen of Iranian descent has been arrested in Denmark on suspicion of collaborating with Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and attempting to attack members of the 'Ahvaz Movement', but this individual has denied the charges. Meanwhile, Bahram Qasemi, the spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, stated in an interview with IRNA that the claims made by Danish officials regarding an attempt to attack an opponent of the Islamic Republic are "completely baseless and incorrect, and the information gathered also indicates this." Qasemi added that it has been said that an Iranian-origin individual with Norwegian citizenship was supposed to carry out a terrorist act against Iran's opponents; this person is completely fictional and without identity. He stated that no evidence or documentation has been provided to Iran in this regard. Qasemi further added that before any documents or evidence are presented and a trial is held, this accusation has been attributed to Iran, which contradicts friendly relations and all recognized legal and judicial norms. The spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry said that indications show that the U.S., Israel, and "another infamous center that is currently facing very serious accusations" are trying to accuse Iran in this psychological war and thereby undermine Iran's relations with the European Union on the eve of the second phase of U.S. sanctions. Nevertheless, Qasemi has called on the European Union, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the Union, and others to intervene in this matter and thoroughly examine the documents related to the "Danish claims." Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the EU's foreign policy criticized Tehran for allegedly attempting to design an "attack" in Denmark and condemned the action. Maya Koutsiantich, spokesperson for Federica Mogherini, the EU's foreign policy chief, stated that we condemn any threats to the security of the European Union and take every incident regarding this matter seriously. She added that therefore, we are concerned about security threats, especially in Denmark, in solidarity with all EU members. In this context, the Prime Minister of Denmark also announced that the country is in contact with European allies and expressed hope for a unified response to Iran regarding the accusation of the Islamic Republic's attempt to design an attack on Danish soil.
