Zeinab Zamani Sentenced: 6 Months Imprisonment and 5 Years Ban from Associating with Political Activists

Zeinab Zamani, a women's rights activist residing in Tehran, has been sentenced to 6 months of imprisonment, a fine of 50 million tomans, and additional punitive measures by the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran. According to the human rights organization "Hengaw," the ruling was issued by Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari. Zamani's imprisonment has been suspended for 5 years and communicated to her lawyer, Abuzar Zamani. Additionally, she has been banned from associating with individuals active in political and social fields for 5 years. Abuzar Zamani stated on the social media platform "X" that initially, Zeinab Zamani was charged with propaganda against the regime, but after her defense in court, the judge dismissed this charge and changed it to "spreading falsehoods" due to the content of her published materials. The hearing for her case took place on December 9. Previously, in August of this year, Zeinab Zamani was also sentenced to one year in prison on similar charges, part of which was suspended for five years. This women's rights activist had earlier been informed of her charges on November 5 of this year at the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in District 33 of Tehran, located in Evin Prison, and was released after posting bail. The Iran Human Rights Campaign reported a 5-month lack of information regarding the status of Zara Ismaili. Shirin Ebadi stated that the brutal sentence of hand amputation in Iran must be revoked. Saba and Mona Bakhtiari urged people to voice their support for Mehrdad Bakhtiari in solitary confinement.
