Zohreh Sarv, Political Prisoner, Ends Hunger Strike

An informed source contacted by Voice of America reported that Zohreh Sarv, a constitutionalist political prisoner, has ended her hunger strike. Zohreh Sarv, imprisoned in Evin Prison, had been on hunger strike since December 2 in protest against "the continuation of case-making, prevention of conditional release or leave, and deprivation of the right to medical treatment." Pouran Nazemi, a human rights activist, also published a letter from this political prisoner regarding the end of her hunger strike on her Instagram page on Saturday, December 25. In this letter, Zohreh Sarv noted that the request from Prince Reza Pahlavi was effective in her decision to end the hunger strike. Previously, Prince Reza Pahlavi had warned about the danger to the life of this political prisoner and had asked her to end her hunger strike. Zohreh Sarv emphasized in part of her letter that "no power is greater than unity" and wrote: "Each of us, regardless of our inclination, is like pieces of a puzzle that only make sense together; we will depict the freedom of tomorrow's Iran." According to an informed source, doctors had previously stated that if this political prisoner continued her hunger strike, "her internal organs would suffer serious damage" and she might go into a "coma." In recent days, Zohreh Sarv had also attempted suicide following the rejection of a "collaboration offer" with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and threats from agents of this governmental body. This political prisoner, who was released in 2021 after spending two and a half years in Qarchak Varamin prison, was re-arrested after 45 days and has been in prison since then.
